Sorry That Happened to You:

Using the Written Word to Heal from Trauma

online • wednesdays 7pm-8:30pm PT

Have a complicated relationship with the word “survivor”? Me too. “Survivor” is a label defined by societal stereotypes that perpetuates myths, victim blaming, and confines us to a one-size-fits-all identity. While it affects victims of sexual violence in profound ways, it doesn’t represent us as individuals or speak to our singular experiences.

We are more than our stories or stories written about survivors. Language is a powerful tool to reclaim our identities, heal past wounds, and release trauma stored in our minds and bodies.

This workshop aims to transform the hurt, pressure, and anxiety of violence into a tangible and independent vessel through writing. This is not a writing workshop, but one that uses words to empower, heal and write what is true for you. To be heard, understood, and alleviate some of weight that we survivors carry.

We will meet weekly in a safe online space to write, reclaim our stories, and lift each other up.

Each workshop includes:

  • A writing prompt

  • Writing time

  • Sharing time

  • Suggested ways to let your story go

Who is this workshop for? Female and those who identify as female sexual assault survivors.
